  • September 2011  So much of government sub-national economic growth and development work has focused on cities, that it was extremely interesting to undertake an August commission with the Welland Partnership (WP), covering the 300,000 market town and rural populations of East Northamptonshire, Harborough, Melton, Rutland and South Kesteven. 3LE worked with the five local authority chief executives and chief officers to look at the case for economic collaboration across this geography. Proposals that emerged will be considered by WP at a forthcoming meeting later this month.

  • August 2011 The Guardian Local Government Network Advisory Board, of which I am a member, held a first collective meeting this month, discussing future directions. • August 2011  Do the riots this month symbolise a 'crisis in regeneration' of the last 25 years? Read a series of blogs broadly exploring this issue - 'Aspiring for the champions League...where does Tottenham go next?';  'Back to the Future: Birmingham 2010'; and 'Railroad to nowhere, fast track to prosperity...or none of the above' . Links/a fuller introduction on our news page. Feedback and comments welcome.
  • July 2011 A major development this month has been 3LE's 'discovery' of interactive media with a new davidjmarlow twitter account, a davidjmarlow.wordpress personal blog, and even a new blog on Regeneration & Renewal/Planning - click on the links to have a look...
  • January - June 2011     It is a tough year for the economic development and regeneration sectors. Our news and articles section outlines some of the territory 3LE has been covering - from renationalisation of economic development by a supposedly 'localist' government; are LEPs, Enterprise Zones etc., up to the job of kickstarting local growth?; to a bit of summer cheer as we reach the 'carnival season'!
